Why I do What I do...

My own healing has been helped through all kinds of therapies and classes over the years. The skills and knowledge of wonderful holistic therapists, counsellors, somatic experiencing practitioners, and yoga teachers, have taught me how to feel a sense of balance, ease physical pain, process complex trauma, regulate my nervous system, and move through times of change with a bit more peace; it definitely isn't always easy, but it is worth it!
I'm no different to anyone else, I feel the same stress, anxiety, sadness, depression, illnesses, and physical and mental pain that the majority of people go through. I also feel the same joy, peace, love, and presence that we all have the capacity to feel given the chance.
And really, that's why I do what I do - because we're all so similar. If something helped me, chances are it'll help someone else; but it's not one size fits all, so take what resonates for you and leave the rest! We all deserve to feel more ease in life, to feel supported in whatever we're going through physically and mentally, to feel safe to be ourselves, and to experience the benefits of a holistic life.
Perhaps the challenges we face lead us to where we're meant to be? If so, I believe mine have led me to genuinely care for other beings without judgement. My own personal life experiences as well as the professional training and work I have done have taught me how to serve you better. How to offer meaningful connection and fulfilling treatments, how to utilise my skills and pass on knowledge in an effort to be the best practitioner that I can for you: I'll never be perfect, but I'll always be myself!

My Background

My love for all things holistic was sparked in high school when a teacher brought in some essential oils for us to learn about them. One sniff and I was hooked! I was fascinated by their uses and how powerful just a few drops could be. Over the next seven years, I was constantly drawn to introductory classes on various holistic therapies, and finally in 2002, I committed to an Anatomy and Physiology diploma course. I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it, or what I could do with it, I just knew I had to do it! One thing led to another and four years later, I was qualified in several complementary therapies and also as an esthetician. Following my soul's desires worked out in ways I could never have imagined!
The first half of my career was spent in a multidisciplinary holistic centre in Dublin where I offered a wide variety of treatments and worked alongside some of the best practitioners in the business. At the same time, I spent a few years working with a community drugs team, offering Massage and Reflexology to addicts, their families and the amazing staff.
I absolutely loved Ireland and the places I worked but I wanted to travel, so off I went on a little three month solo adventure to Australia, that turned into five years!
As my time in Oz was coming to an end and dreams of a Canadian life were occupying my mind, I was longing for a change and willing to give anything a go.
I tried everything, from Finance Officer for the Queensland government in Australia to Dog Grooming in Alberta, Canada. But as much as I love numbers and furbabies, the desire to work one-on-one with people and help people feel better through holistic practices, never left me, so in 2017 I opened my treatment room in White Rock, B.C. Canada, under the name of 'anamchara holistic home'.
​Forever a student, I was always learning something that helped me be of service. I studied trauma, the nervous system, additional levels of Reiki, and became a yoga teacher.
Building my holistic practice, teaching several times a week, and creating workshops to offer in various studios, filled me with contentment, I felt like I was back doing what I was meant to!
We all know what happened in 2020.... everything got shut down, yoga classes and 1-1 treatments were not allowed in our community and the life I had built felt changed forever.
This led to a shift in personal priorities and a want to be closer to family and friends.
​Now, having settled in after another international move, I'm delighted to be offering treatments, classes and workshops in the UK and Ireland.
Treating clients and teaching classes fills me with so much joy and satisfaction. Whether I'm preparing your treatment room, hearing you say how relaxed you feel, or seeing you let your breath lead you to the present moment, it just feels 'right', like this is the only work I truly love. And when you're fortunate enough to love your work, it's more than a job, it's a purpose. This journey of life seems to be a constant cycle of growth and change, and wherever I am in the world, if I can make life a little bit easier for you, then my heart is happy!

My Philosophy

I'm always amazed by how the body and mind copes with life, how resilient and adaptable we are to change, trauma, injury, illness and stress.  I believe if we look at things holistically - taking into account the whole person, then we can heal our lives. This doesn't necessarily mean we have a clean bill of physical and mental health. There may always be issues, injuries or illnesses to deal with, but if we can begin to have compassion for ourselves, and be willing to let go of what limits us, we can find moments of peace. And when our openness allows us to listen to our body, acknowledge our thoughts and feelings, trust our intuition and practice self-care, then we have a greater chance of experiencing life with optimal well-being. It sounds like a lot to do, and it is! So we need to be kind to ourselves in the process and just do a little at a time whenever we can. It may not always be easy, but it will be worth it.
